YOUTH SAY “THANK YOU” TO CONGREGATION SEPT 19
The youth who traveled to New Orleans July 15-23 for the synod’s youth gathering
“We Believe” will serve a thank you breakfast Sunday, Sept. 19, following the 9am
church service. After you’ve had a chance to enjoy some pancakes and sausage,
the group will present a twenty minute video on the gathering. This breakfast and
program will be in lieu of the Fellowship and Sunday School hour. The children are welcome to attend.
Youth who went to New Orleans are Brandon and Justin Dehne, Samantha Exferd,
Tanner Exferd, Shawn Hackbarth, Joe Kroll, Brad and Breanna McLaughlin, and Alisa Piontek. Adult chaperons are Penny and Tim McLaughlin and Scott Wycherley.
The last night of the gathering the youth showed the Spirit was working. They
collected some of their loose bills and change and bought McDonalds burgers
for some of the street people of New Orleans by the hotel. Several also gave away their gathering Bibles. At the airport two of our youth gave away their boom whackers (plastic sticks that play musical notes) to a pastor who has a blind grandson. Back home here in
Wisconsin the youth plan to participate in local service projects in the congregation
and community and also mentor the youth who plan to attend the next gathering in
2013 which will be in San Antonio.
The next service project for our youth is the leading of children’s games at the Riverview
Corn Roast Saturday, Sept. 4, from 12-3. Rides will be given from the church at 11:30.
Youth meetings this year will take the form of “Open House” events which will feature
a Christian growth program, event planning meeting, and recreation. The first open
house event will be at the Wycherleys’ Sunday, Sept. 26, right after Sunday School,
about 12 - 1:30. Rides will be given from church and then home from the event.
Aluminum cans are a year-round fund raiser for us. Please toss
your well tied sturdy bag of aluminum cans or aluminum scrap (no
tin, glass, or plastic) into the pen by the church garage.
