“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).
Dear Friends in Christ Jesus:
It’s hard to believe that summer is “over.” Where did the time go? What will the next moment bring? As people redeemed by the blood of Christ we can say with the Psalmist: “But I trust in you, O LORD; I say ‘You are my God.’ My times are in your hand..” (Psalm 31:14-15a). Our God has blessed us with forgiveness of our sins, life and salvation. The best is yet is come!
As the Fall begins there are going to be many opportunities to put our time in God’s hands. Time to reflect on what He has done for us; time to continue to worship and praise Him; time to support and grow the ministry at St. John. Since I believe that all Christians want to grow in their faith they would want to take the opportunity to hear His Word. That means taking time for personal devotions, Bible Study and fellowship with other believers.
My plans for Bible Study for this season include a Sunday morning Bible Study on the forgiveness of God-a 10-part video/discussion series that will help us focus on the blessings of His forgiveness in His Son and what it means as we live and place our time in His hands. This study will begin on Sunday, September 12 at 10:25a.m. We would most likely meet in the old fellowship hall near the bathrooms.
Thursday morning Bible Study will be on Martin Luther’s Small and Large Catechisms. This would be a great study for those who want more of an in-depth focus on the Lutheran’s church teachings. It would also be great for those thinking about becoming a member of St. John. This study will begin on Thursday, September 9 at 10:00a.m. Coffee and refreshments are always part of our time together.
The Men’s Bible Study at St. John continues their study of the book of Genesis. They meet every two weeks on Wednesday nights. All men are invited to come and spend their time in God’s Word with other men. You don’t have to be a member of St. John to attend. This goes for all of our Bible studies. The Men’s group will meet again on Wednesday, September 15 at 7:00p.m.
How can I forget Confirmation? I haven’t! Our combined 7th/8th Grade Confirmation classes will officially begin on Wednesday, September 15th at 7:00p.m. There will be an orientation session for parents and students on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 AT 6:30P.M. If you have a son or daughter entering 7th grade it is most important that the student and at least one parent attend. Parents will receive an outline of expectations and requirements for their children. They will receive a schedule for the year and will be asked to sign a special covenant. I need the parents help through the process of Confirmation! 6th grade students will meet for Bible History classes at the school in Wabeno. (This could change…stay tuned!)
All of these opportunities allow all of us to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faith comes from hearing His Word-will you avail yourself for one of these studies? Please call the church office (276-7214) or me (850-2789) for more questions. May we put our time in God’s hands in grow in faith!
In His service,
Pastor Mueller
