EDUCATION NOTES:

“AWAY IN A MANGER” IS CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS THEME

The Children’s Christmas Service will be Wednesday, December 17, at 5:30. The boys and girls are beginning to memorize their lines, learning to sing the songs, and many are also making banners for the procession included in the service.

On the first three Sundays in November we’ll be collecting sundry gifts to be placed in shoeboxes and shipped around the world through Franklin Graham’s Operation Christmas Child. Brochures concerning what gifts are needed have been sent home with the boys and girls in Sunday School, and several are still available on our display table in the Gathering Place if you wish to help us out. Cash gifts are welcome to help with the shipping. On Nov. 17th the boxes will be on their way. Last year over 40 gift boxes were shipped from our church and we hope to break that record this year. Three years ago we even received a “thank you” from a young girl in Poland who had received one of our boxes. The payee on your check can be “St. John Lutheran Church” and we can then combine all the gifts into one check to the program.

SUNDAY SCHOOL SINGS IN CHURCH

Our Sunday School children will sing"Savior Like A Shepherd Lead Us" at the 9am Sunday service Nov. 16. Attend with your family and friends. The children will be meeting in the fellowship hall at 8:45.

We’re doing an opening each week with an order of service including a song, theme for the day, Bible reading, and Luther’s Morning Prayer. In addition we still celebrate birthdays on the first Sunday of the month, and we keep track of our offerings to the Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots (LAMP) by moving the model plane an inch per dollar in the back of the church.

Teachers meet on the 9th from 11:30 – 12:15.

Breakfast Bible Class continues to meet each Wednesday morning for Bible study, a delicious breakfast served by our members on a rotating schedule, and a time for corporate and personal prayer. Feel free to join at any time. Current participation in this group is 9-14 adults. The class meets from 6:30 – 7:30 am. The current topic is the book of Romans.
